Dr Derek Boyd

Chief Executive, NMI

Derek has been with NMI since 2001 and Chief Executive since 2003.  He has broad experience in the electronics and semiconductors coming from previous employment with Compaq, National Semiconductor and NEC. 

Derek graduated in 1984 with a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and completed a Master of Business Administration in 1994.  Derek is also Doctor of the University of Glasgow having been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2010.

In 2012 Derek led the development of “The ESCO Report” a blueprint for the growth of the Electronic Systems Community in the UK; future skills being a key part of the report.  Publication led to the formation of an ESCO Industry Council currently co-chaired by Warren East and Baroness Lucy Neville-Rolfe, UK Minister for Intellectual Property.  Derek is a serving member on this Council and is also the leader of the ESCO Skills Workstream.
